Fresh Graduate Interview Questions & Answers

First-job interviews test potential, not history — but they do it through predictable questions about your degree, your final year project, and how you handle not knowing things. These are the questions Pakistani fresh graduates face most, from software house walk-ins to bank MT assessment centres.

1Walk me through your final year project.

The single most important fresh-graduate question — treat your FYP like a job you held. Structure: the problem, your specific role (critical in group projects), the stack or method, one hard obstacle and how you solved it, and the outcome. "We built X; I owned the backend and database design; our hardest problem was Y, which we solved by Z; it's deployed and used by N people." Practise this until it's a fluent three-minute story.

2You have no experience. Why should we hire you?

Reframe without being defensive: you have adjacent evidence — internships, projects, society leadership, freelance work — and a short ramp-up promise. "What I don't have in years I make up in demonstrated finishing: a deployed FYP, an internship where I closed real tickets, and a society role with a budget. I expect to be genuinely productive within my first quarter." Employers hiring freshers are buying trajectory; show them slope.

3What do you know about our company?

A pure preparation check — and the question fresh graduates fail most. Ten minutes of research yields: what they do, main products/clients, offices, and one recent development. Weave in why it fits you. Failing this question after applying reads as mass-applying, which many Pakistani recruiters treat as an instant rejection.

4Why is your CGPA low? (if applicable)

One honest sentence, no excuses spiral, then redirect to evidence: "My early semesters suffered while I adjusted; my final two years averaged 3.4, and meanwhile I built the practical skills you see in my projects." An upward grade trend and real work outweigh the number itself for most employers outside hard-cutoff MT programmes.

5Are you willing to work night shifts / relocate / travel?

Decide before the interview, because wavering reads worse than either answer. If yes, say it plainly — it's a genuine differentiator for CSR, support, and audit roles. If no, state it respectfully with your constraint; accepting conditions you can't sustain leads to a three-month resignation that damages you more than a truthful no.

6What salary do you expect as a fresher?

Know the market band for the role and city (fresh roles in Pakistan typically 40–80k, software and MT programmes higher). Answer with flexible realism: "From my research, similar roles offer 50–70k; I'm flexible for the right learning opportunity." This shows preparation without pricing yourself out — the actual goal at entry level is the growth curve, and saying so lands well.

7A question you don't know the answer to — how should you respond?

Never bluff; interviewers ask boundary questions specifically to watch this moment. Strong pattern: "I haven't worked with that, but here's how I'd reason about it…" then connect to what you do know, and close with "I'd love to know the actual answer." Honest reasoning under uncertainty is precisely the trait first-job interviews exist to find.
